Heh, all my friends in Boston used to drive up to NH to get things sales-tax-free .. especially cigs.
When I switched, I listed all the apps I used on windows, then went about looking for the Mac equivalent. IE > Safari, Outlook Express > Mail, Nero > Toast , etc.. it took a while but it was fun in the process. I also found that trying to use windows again now sux 'cause it doesn't have all the programs I'm so used to!
Knock yourself out, sounds like a nice machine.

Is there a plugin API in Xcode (4)?
I miss a lot of the brilliant extensions made for VS2008 and VS2010. ReSharper, Telerik, misc database plugins etc. are all good tools that enhance VS and makes it so good. That way some of the itches that Apple can't or won't scratch could be done by other developers.

^^^^^^ That was just a rumor. The Gevey Pro has the same issue, it requires u to go through the procedure again if u reboot or lose service. Rebel was supposed to solve this issue but they have yet to ship their simcard

Sick of applescript programs for video conversion, here's my new Cocoa app written entirely in Objective-C, multithreaded, to encode a variety of movie formats into vcd mpeg1/svcd mpeg2, xvcd, xsvcd, and DVD ready for DVD Studio Pro format.

There is a variety of different options available for todays media afficianado, we find the format to be trusted by the experts, and that maintains the widest range of compatability is MPEG. (Specifically MPEG-1 and MPEG-2)
It has become clear to us that it isn't as easy as it should be to convert the wide array of available media formats to (S/X)VCD/DVD. In an effort to answer a large demand for a simple to use program that encompasses the large spectrum of options available to the Macintosh platform we are proud to bring you Echelon.
Convert multiple files
Echelon delivers the capability of converting a large queue list of files to a variety of different MPEG based formats (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2). It aims to employ all the complex video tools in one easy to use program.
Limitless customization
In an effort to accomodate your personal needs each file maintains its own individual settings. It is also possible to save your favorite presets for future usage.
Fast, Reliable, Simple
We have put in endless hours of research to only allow conversion methods that will solely yield usable end products. We aim to have a harmonious blend of intuitition and simplicity, the things you have come to expect as a Macintosh user.
Advanced User Features
In an effort to meet the needs of the varied levels of experience within our userbase we have implemented an array of advanced features for each encoder included.
Realtime Preview
In addition to intuitive graphical and textual progress indication, the user has the freedom to view the actual frames of video as they are encoded.
Multiple Effect Filters
From adjusting gamma (to be implemented later), to deinterlacing, to denoising we attempted to supply all the necessary effect filters for any of your desired outcomes.
World friendly
We will be localizing Echelon in multiple languages, and are up to suggestion for any localizations we didn't cover, dont hesitate to contact us with more language suggestions.

Hey can you guys tell me what I need to change to become valid html?
Result: Tentatively passed validation
File: test.html
Encoding: utf-8
Doctype: -//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 TRANSITIONAL//EN
Unknown Parse Mode!
The MIME Media Type (text/html) for this document is used to serve both SGML and XML based documents, and it is not possible to disambiguate it based on the DOCTYPE Declaration in your document. Parsing will continue in SGML mode.
No DOCTYPE found!
Attempting validation with HTML 4.01 Transitional.
The DOCTYPE Declaration was not recognized or is missing. This probably means that the Formal Public Identifier contains a spelling error, or that the Declaration is not using correct syntax. Validation has been performed using a default "fallback" Document Type Definition that closely resembles "HTML 4.01 Transitional", but the document will not be Valid until you have corrected this problem with the DOCTYPE Declaration.
This Page Is Tentatively Valid -//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 TRANSITIONAL//EN
The uploaded document "test.html" was checked and found to be tentatively valid -//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 TRANSITIONAL//EN. This means that with the use of some fallback or override mechanism, we successfully performed a formal validation using an SGML or XML Parser. In other words, the document would validate as -//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 TRANSITIONAL//EN if you changed the markup to match the changes we have performed automatically, but it will not be valid until you make these changes
The code I have for this so far is:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 TRANSITIONAL//EN">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
What else do I need to become valid?

By no problem, do you mean that you feel no difference between 10.6 an 10.7?
Well the cursor is not as fast as in Windows, but it's managable.
It means that the cursor movement is not linear to the mouse movement. Google it and you will see that it's a huge issue for people that want to game on their Macs, especially for Windows switchers that are not used to it. The worst part is that there is no setting in OS X to remove it.
Here are two images that illustrate it (from a 3rd party software that removes the acceleration)
Without this program: http://triq.net/files/gallery/snip2.png With this program: http://triq.net/files/gallery/snip1.png
I am begging Lion to have an option to turn mouse acceleration off. I've tried most of these 3rd party programs, and they don't really help. It really affects how well you can play RTSs and FPSs. Please, Apple, just give up an option like Windows does!

Meh, my experiences at Springboard haven't been amazing, the people aren't always incredibly friendly. I think I'm going to Ardmore.

It was originally 250 and it was one that was up for the 100 dollar rebate. When i ordered it the website said that it was on back order adn that it would probably take 6 weeks to get here, which did not bother me seeing as i did not need it right away.
I just called them and they said it was discontinued and that they no longer carried it. Meaning that i ordered a printer 5 weeks ago that in the end would never get here. I am peeved because when i ordered the printer it was not discontinued. And while there are some other printers availible they are not the ones that i want!! I want the one i ordered 5 weeks ago.
Apple should at least honor the orders that were mad for that printer before it was discontinued!!

Howdy. I have a Logitech G5, Logitech G9, and Razer Lachesis. I love 'em all but none has a Mac driver. :(
Do you use a laser mouse? If so, which do you use?
(I don't game, but the higher sensitivity works nicely for larger screen resolutions and some graphic design)
Thx!
I use a Apple Magic Mouse.. which is a laser mouse, and works fantastically (as youd expect) with Mac OS X.

Good ploy on their part to get a cheap emac.
Good luck with HP. Not a bad company's computer to have if you have to have a non-apple, but it still runs windows.

Never had a portable before....Personally, I love using a desktop much more than a laptop but it is convenient, which is part of the reason why I didn't need/want power in a portable.
From what you say, I think you would be fine w/ an iBook rather than a PB.

Didn't see this posted yet, I would hate to be on the Comair plane as it gets whipped around. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the collision of an Airbus A-380 and a smaller plane at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Air France Flight 7, bound for Paris, was taxiing on a runway Monday night when its left wingtip struck the tail of Comair Flight 6293, which had just landed from Boston and was taxiing to its gate at Kennedy, one of the nation's busiest airports.
There were no injuries.
Both planes were being inspected Tuesday. Pilots and crew will also be interviewed.
Passenger Lawrence Grotts was on board the Air France plane.
"It really felt just like a speedbump or like hitting a pothole -- a jolt -- but it didn't feel right ... like that shouldn't be happening," he said.
The NTSB said it has requested the flight recorders and will review air traffic control tapes and what is known as ground radar data.
The double-deck Airbus A-380 had 495 passengers and 25 crew members on board, Air France said in a statement. The Comair CRJ 700 Regional Jet had 62 passengers and four crew members.
"This incident only caused material damage to the two aircraft," Air France said. The airline said it is assisting the NTSB.
Maxine Lubner, chair of the aviation department at Vaughn College, said communication could have been a problem.
"When the plane, the A-380, was on the taxiway, Alpha, it's under FAA control," she said. "The regional jet may have already been switched to the company's frequency."
Lubner said the Air France pilots should have been able to see the smaller aircraft.
